EndNote Online is an expanded version of EndNote Basic that is available once your EndNote Desktop software is associated with your EndNote Basic account.Stanford users can purchase the most current version at the academic price at the Stanford Bookstore.
EndNote, also known as EndNote Desktop, is the stand-alone full software package for a personal computer. In addition, the Web of Science version of EndNote Basic has over 6,000 styles and hundreds of filters and connection files. Like the free version of EndNote Basic, a maximum of 50,000 references and of 2 GB of attachments is allowed. EndNote Basic (Web of Science Version) is a limited web-based version available to Stanford faculty, students, and staff as part of our subscription to Web of Science. A maximum of 50,000 references and of 2 GB of attachments is allowed. EndNote Basic (Free Version) is a no-cost limited web version with 21 styles and a limited number of filters and connection files. When done, click FINISH.EndNote is software package for creating bibliographies and managing references. Choose the destination folder (usually in C:Program Files) and click NEXT. In the list of features, click on each red X and click "Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive." CUSTOM - will allow you to install all output styles, filters, and connection files (including ODU). TYPICAL - will install the most commonly used output styles, filters, connection files. Click NEXT through the info screens, and then select an Installation Type:. At the EndNote X8 Installation screen, click NEXT and ACCEPT. Then double-click the "ENX8Inst.msi" file (Windows Installer Package) to begin installation. In your Downloads folder, double-click the InstallEnX8 file folder. IMPORTANT STEP: Highlight the EndNote 20 folder, and " EXTRACT ALL FILES" Then exit the zip program. SAVE the file to DOWNLOADS or DESKTOP (or elsewhere), then OPEN. Click DOWNLOAD (message may say: No preview available), then DOWNLOAD ANYWAY. Quit Microsoft Word and all web browsers. 
Try the installation process again and make sure to Extract All Files in Step 4. NOTE: If you are asked for a product key or 30-day trial, the install process didn't recognize you as an ODU user.
